The fleshy green spears of asparagus are both succulent and tender and have been considered a delicacy since ancient times. As well as a distinctive flavour and presentation, this highly prized vegetable provides a truly unique combination of anti-inflammatory nutrients. Among these anti-inflammatory nutrients are asparagus saponins, including asparanin A, sarsasapogenin, protodioscin, and diosgenin.
Asparagus also provides a wide variety of antioxidant nutrients, including vitamin C, beta-carotene, vitamin E, and the minerals zinc, manganese, and selenium, plus is as an excellent source of folic acid, vitamin B1, B2, B6, niacin, choline, and pantothenic acid. Because B vitamins play a key role in the metabolism of sugars and starches, they are critical for healthy blood sugar management.
Today T&G is a leader in Southern Hemisphere green asparagus, having operated in the category for over 20 years, and often pioneered asparagus sales from Australasia and South America into markets across Asia, North America, and Europe.
T&G grows and sources asparagus from Australia, Peru, New Zealand, and Mexico, to enable freshness and flavour year round. Our team of category specialists work hard to ensure the shortest gap possible between picking and purchase by the customer.
We have you covered year-round
T&G’s network of growers gives continuity of supply throughout the year, allowing us to dove-tail between each growing region. As each region peaks at different times of the year, our customers can offer their consumers consistently fresh asparagus at a reasonable price point.
The overlapping seasons also allow T&G to move between regions if the growing conditions are more favorable, which will reduce supply gaps throughout the year because of weather.
