T&G Global has today announced the appointment of Kotahi as its ocean freight services provider, with Kotahi to lead the procurement of all ocean freight for the company from 2023/24 onwards.

T&G’s Director of Operations, Craig Betty, says Kotahi provides the flexibility, resilience and scale the company needs across its supply chain for the long-term to deliver its growth strategy.

“As an exporter, our ability to compete on the world stage is heavily reliant on our ability to get our premium Envy™ and JAZZ™ apple brands to global markets efficiently, on time and at a cost that gives a competitive platform for our growers,” said Craig.

“With significant new plantings underway and growing export volumes over coming years, we need a flexible and scalable ocean freight model that provides us with long-term confidence and security.

“Working together with Kotahi to deliver our ocean freight services will enable us to leverage and benefit from their scale, resilience and collaboration to move our fresh produce to customers and consumers around the world, and will help shape our growth strategy.”

Kotahi is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest supply chain collaboration. Established in 2011 by its two shareholders, Fonterra and Silver Fern Farms, Kotahi works with over 60 Kiwi exporters to move almost one third of New Zealand’s containerised exports, making them the largest containerised and refrigerated exporter in the country.

David Ross, Kotahi Chief Executive said: “We are delighted that T&G has selected Kotahi in their journey to build a reliable and resilient global supply chain. Horticulture growers have had several challenging years with weather events and supply chain disruption. We’re excited that T&G, as an export leader in New Zealand produce, recognise the significant importance of a robust, sustainable supply chain as central to their business strategy. We look forward to building on our collaboration, working together with all our logistics partners and customers as we continue to support New Zealand trade,” he said.

T&G’s selection of Kotahi follows an extensive review of various ocean freight options.
