T&G Global invites postgraduate students to apply for the 2026 Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant, a $10,000 scholarship recognising emerging talent and fostering innovation across Aotearoa New Zealand’s horticulture sector.
As one of the country’s leading horticultural businesses, T&G Global is deeply committed to nurturing the future of the industry. The values of innovation, sustainability and collaboration are deeply embedded in the organisation—guiding T&G’s growth strategy, and how it works with partners and supports the next generation of leaders.
“At T&G, we know innovation starts with people; those who have a mindset of solving, are forward-thinking, curious and want to make a positive impact,” says Adrienne Sharp, Head of Corporate Affairs at T&G Global.
“Through the Edward Turner Grant, we’re proud to support postgraduate students who share that same passion. Their research and ideas will help shape a vibrant future for Aotearoa New Zealand’s horticulture sector.”
The 2025 grant recipient, Francis Ferrada-Hartley, is a Master’s student at Massey University who was awarded the grant for his research into leaf mould caused by Fulvia fulva in resistant tomato cultivars; a fungal disease increasingly affecting commercial glasshouse crops.
“Receiving the Edward Turner Grant has been an incredible support,” says Francis. “It eased the financial pressures of my research and allowed me to focus on collecting and analysing fungal samples from across the country. Having T&G’s backing has helped me make real progress in identifying and managing the strains affecting growers.
“This experience has reinforced my goal of contributing to the growth, resilience, and innovation of our local industry.”
The Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant is open to postgraduate students based in Aotearoa New Zealand who are passionate about horticulture and pursuing advanced studies or research projects.
Applications are open to post-graduate tertiary students who have completed at least one tertiary-level degree in Aotearoa New Zealand and are either enrolled to study a post-graduate qualification within horticulture, science or business disciplines or be undertaking a research project related to the horticulture industry in 2026.
Applications for the 2026 grant open on Tuesday 28 October 2025 and close on 14 November 2025.
