Legacy
Our founder’s legacy
A combination of learned skills and expertise, coupled with an entrepreneurial spirit, enabled a young Edward Turner to establish a fresh fruit business in Aotearoa New Zealand back in the late 1800s, starting with a small but successful fresh fruit and vegetable shop in Auckland.
The Turners & Growers company Edward Turner established in 1897, has evolved since then into a successful global business that today employs more than 1,600 people across 13 different countries, with customers in more than 60 countries.
It’s that combination of passion, commitment, expertise and entrepreneurial spirit T&G Global will be seeking in the recipient of the Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant.

The inaugural Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant was awarded to Reuben Panting, a Masters student at Auckland University. Reuben’s commitment to innovation, development and commercialisation in the field of plant and microbial biotechnology fits the intent of the grant perfectly.
“Receiving this grant has allowed me to learn a host of hugely useful lab techniques which will be invaluable in my future career and enabled me to meet so many inspiring scientists and innovators. I feel that this Master’s project has positioned me really well to be an innovator and a leader in the future of the wider agritech and horticulture industry, which will be increasingly under threat as growing conditions continue to rapidly change” says Reuben.
