T&G Global is proud to announce the second round of the Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant, a prestigious $10,000 post-graduate scholarship designed to foster the next generation of horticultural leaders. This grant, named in honour of Edward Turner, who founded Turners & Growers over 125 years ago, supports promising students advance the future of horticulture.

“The Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant supports the next generation of science and business leaders who will shape and drive our sector forward,” says Adrienne Sharp, Head of Corporate Affairs at T&G Global.

“Horticulture is pivotal to Aotearoa New Zealand’s economy. It helps feed our families and fellow Kiwis, builds strong rural communities and helps drive our country’s economic success through the value of its exports. To ensure our sector continues to grow and thrive into the future, we’re committed to supporting upcoming talent who will help advance our sector.”

The inaugural Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant was awarded to Reuben Panting, a Masters student at Auckland University. Reuben’s commitment to innovation, development and commercialisation in the field of plant and microbial biotechnology fits the intent of the grant perfectly.

“Receiving this grant has allowed me to learn a host of hugely useful lab techniques which will be invaluable in my future career and enabled me to meet so many inspiring scientists and innovators” says Reuben.

“I feel that this Master’s project has positioned me really well to be an innovator and a leader in the future of the wider agritech and horticulture industry, which will be increasingly under threat as growing conditions continue to rapidly change.”

The Edward Turner Horticulture Futures Grant is available to post-graduate students based in Aotearoa New Zealand who are passionate about horticulture and are pursuing advanced studies or research projects. Applications for this year’s $10,000 grant open on 1 October 2024 and T&G encourages all eligible students from diverse disciplines—such as applied science, technology, and business—to apply.
